I enjoyed this meditation on beauty’s relationship with the divine, as I’ve always thought it true. However, we can’t be Pollyannaish. There is a great deal of beauty in this world, but also a great deal of ugliness as well. In fact, as I’ve grown to see more beauty in the world, I have, as a consequence begun to see more ugliness too–the contrast has become more stark. I’m never sure how to deal with this fact. Perhaps the apocalyptosists were onto something.

I guess when we open up to life we become vulnerable, too. Maybe that’s why we so often refuse to look?

It’s a good season for seeing the beauty all around us, isn’t it?
