Alchemy is the medieval forerunner of modern science, Based on the goal of transforming matter, alchemists attempted to purify, mature, and perfect certain materials. They were particularly interested in attempting to convert base metals into gold, or to find a universal elixir.
However, alchemy is far more than transforming metal into gold; it is the practice of inner transformation. The ancient art of alchemy was the search for spirit in matter as a way of deepening our own relationship with the sacred. Alchemy seeks to create a relationship between our inner world and our outer world.
