A wonderful coincidence for you: Thomas H Burgoyne, a very popular 19th century Scottish occultist and founder of the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor, wrote books on alchemy, left Scotland, moved to Carmel and died there in 1894. His books, amazingly enough, are still available. You might now be within less than a mile of his grave.
