What is Awakening or Enlightenment? (8)

Mystical awakening can occur when something happens that makes us realize that there is a larger mystery of existence than we had thought. This mystical experience can be like awakening from a dream, and you are suddenly able to see life in a completely different way. People awaken to see the inner truth and higher energy of existence. There are many levels to spiritual awakening and enlightenment; it is not a single point of awareness, but rather it becomes a way of living or being. To be enlightened means that we are at one and in tune with life and joy.

Spiritual enlightenment frees us to be more of what we can be. The ultimate form of spiritual enlightenment involves our transcendence into a state of oneness with the universe. People who have experienced a mystical awakening have a sense of a divine union, and their enlightenment allows them to experience deep contentment, because they are at one with nature and with life.

Mystical awakenings are often accompanied by a spiritual transformation or transmutation of the enlightened person’s being. Enlightened people tend to become more open and accepting and closer to an understanding of their divine selves.

People who truly engage in spiritual practice can experience a mystical awakening that leads them to divine union. These enlightened transformations can occur suddenly or over time depending on the awakening experience.
