God and Love (12)

One of the foundations of mysticism is the idea that there is one mind or one divine essence or God, by whatever name it is called. The divine presence exists in unity and longs to know itself. From God’s longing to know itself, creation began. The divine essence dreams the dream of life or the universe and all the beings and energies within it, including humanity. And through those dreams, the divine essence is knowing itself.

The universe created by the divine presence’s dreams was created out of love for all the beings within it. Whatever those beings experience during their physical life, God also experiences. Mystical experiences or spiritual awakenings are events that allow the divine essence’s oneness to know the nature of itself.

God or the divine presence is the beginning and ending of all things. The beginning is an unconscious oneness or the source of everything. The divine essence is headed towards a conscious oneness, and all beings are in the process of creating God by providing experiences to know its nature. As we awaken spiritually and come into conscious oneness the all loving divine presence that exists around us is coming into being itself. The oneness of love is the destination our spiritual life is headed towards.

Mystics believe that everything was created from a place of love and the cosmos had an overwhelming desire to spread and share a deep sense of compassion and love with sentient creatures. From that desire the cosmos birthed itself into being and ultimately birthed God. From this mysticism shows that God is love and we come from an untainted origin state of unconditional love. This untainted state of unconditional love is a place of pure potential for everything to exist. This is a state of pure freedom and divine unity. Mystics traveling the mystic path often come to the revelation that God is infinitely compassionate and everything that exists comes from God’s endless love.

God or the divine presence is not a thing, but rather an ever present feeling of wisdom, compassion, and love that exists everywhere and is the true nature of all that is. God is both personal and universal, both within the spiritual self and without. There is a divine energy that permeates everything and all people experience that energy in different ways. Ultimately there is no such thing as the word God as many people think of it and each person develops their own figure or realization of the divine essence or divine energy as part of their spiritual growth.
