Invictus
” Invictus” is a short poem by the English poet William Ernest Henley (1849–1903). It is an example of the Victorian attitude of stoicism, which is often considered a British character trait. Invictus is a cultural icon.

I really loved this poem when I was young but then in 2001, it was changed (negatively) for me, forever

Oh well, apparently Henley was a pretty good guy, who really did have all sorts of problems (mainly health) and would be turning over in his etc etc if he knew his future reader
When I was in High School, lo these 65+ years ago, my English teacher made us memorize this poem. I have never forgotten it; but this is the first time it had meaning. Thank you. lov, liz
